A new outdoor ice rink is now open in Troy at Stine Community Park, 241 Town Center Drive, giving families a simple, free way to get outside this winter without reservations or complicated planning.
The Rink at Stine Community Park sits at the corner of Civic Center and Town Center Drive and is expected to operate through Sunday, March 1, 2026, weather permitting. The space was designed for year-round use, with ice skating in winter and plans for roller skating and blading once temperatures warm.
For parents balancing homework, dinner and early bedtimes, the setup is intentionally low-pressure. Open skating is available most days of the week, reservations are not required and there is no admission fee just to step onto the ice.
Regular skating hours
During the ice skating season, regular hours are:
- Monday-Thursday: 3-8 p.m.
- Friday: 3-9 p.m.
- Saturday: 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
- Sunday: 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
Because the rink is outdoors and uncovered, all hours are weather dependent. Mild temperatures, rain or snow can affect ice conditions, and skate times may vary from day to day. For families spending longer stretches at the rink, concessions are open Friday through Sunday and during holiday breaks, with coffee and hot chocolate available for $3 to help skaters and spectators warm up.
Adjusted hours during school breaks
When school is out, additional daytime hours make it easier to visit earlier:
- Feb. 16-17: 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
All other dates follow the regular schedule.
Costs, rentals and what families should plan for
One of the rink’s biggest draws is affordability. Skating is always free for anyone who brings their own skates, making repeat visits easy on the budget.
For those who need rentals, ice skates are available for $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents. Sizes range from youth through adult size 13. Children under age 3 receive free skate rentals regardless of residency. Cash and credit cards are accepted, and refunds are not issued for any reason. The non-resident rate applies to anyone unable to provide proper identification.
Families bringing their own skates should plan ahead, as sharpening services are not available on-site.
Age, rules and supervision expectations
Clear age policies are in place to keep the ice safe and manageable, especially during busy evenings and weekends.
Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Skaters ages 13-15 must show a school ID if they are not skating with an adult. Anyone ages 16 and older is required to show a photo ID.
For parents of younger skaters, this often means lacing up and joining them on the ice rather than watching from the sidelines.
