With the new year upon us, it’s time to look ahead and get ready for all the fun new attractions and activities that Detroit has to offer in 2026.
The following adventure ideas prove that Detroit always has opportunities available for educational and recreational exploration, whether it’s a classic yearly event like the Auto Show or a new contemporary art exhibit.
Detroit Auto Show
This January, car lovers have a chance to attend the annual Detroit Auto Show, which shows off a wide array of major car brands, including the luxury options in The Gallery. Both the Michigan Overland Adventure and the Visit Detroit Interactive Experience will make their debuts, and The Charity Preview show will include multiple music performances, including one by Robin Thicke.

6th Michigan Regional Glass Exhibition at The J
For those who enjoy making or viewing stunning glass artwork, The J, a prominent Jewish community center in West Bloomfield Township, has the perfect new exhibit scheduled to open in the spring. The 6th Michigan Regional Glass Exhibition features unique and beautiful creations of all shapes, sizes and colors, made by the immensely talented glass artists of Michigan and Ohio.

Detroit Jazz Fest
The annual Detroit Jazz Fest is a beloved tradition dating back to 1980 and the largest free jazz festival on the planet. Attendees can bring their own folding/beach chairs and spend hours outdoors, weather permitting, enjoying a great number of beautiful performances that display the diversity of the jazz genre, as well as some delicious food and drink.

Gerogia O’Keefe Exhibit at the Detroit Institute of Arts
Legendary modern artist Georgia O’Keefe, known for her distinctive style and iconic paintings of flowers and landscapes, also painted beautiful architectural scenes. This fall, O’Keefe’s architectural paintings will be celebrated with a special exhibit at the DIA. “Georgia O’Keefe: Architecture” will showcase 35 paintings spanning four decades, giving visitors an opportunity to connect further with O’Keefe’s unique artistic perspective.

Discovery Trails at the Detroit Zoo
The new Fred and Barbara Erb Discovery Trails feature 7 acres of interactive fun for all ages. The Trails include play areas and new habitats, as well as a farmer’s market, pavilion, gift shop, elevated walkway and mosaic wall. Visitors can feed and pet barnyard animals like alpacas and marine creatures like bamboo sharks. Also, the zoo’s beloved bush dogs are finally returning following the construction of their new habitat.

Cosm Detroit
Cosm is a chain of innovatively designed entertainment and dining venues meant to provide visitors with the most immersive experience possible. The brand new Cosm Detroit, which boasts an 87 foot dome and thousands of LEDs, will open in the city’s downtown area in 2026, providing the city with another spacious hub for attending sports games, movie viewings, concerts and other events.

Gordie Howe International Bridge
The brand new Gordie Howe International Bridge is set to officially open this year after being delayed due to a person accidentally driving on it during its construction. The bridge is a towering spectacle boasting several lanes and connecting Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario. The purpose of this bridge is to provide a better connection to the Canadian border, with easier international travel and more economic opportunities.

New exhibits at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit
This winter, the MOCAD will introduce three new exhibits. “Olayami Dabls: Detroit Cosmologies” showcases the portrayal of Detroit’s landscape from an African perspective. “Carole Harris: This Side of the River” showcases the artistic power of quilting. “Martha Mysko: Retail Therapy” showcases how everyday objects can be uniquely reimagined and presented through art.
