Macomb County Mid-Winter Break Activities

Mid-Winter Break happens around Presidents Day, which always takes place on the third Monday in February.

Some schools in Macomb County have the whole week off, Feb. 19-23, while others only have a couple days off, Feb. 19-20. Either way, it’s a great opportunity for you to get out of the house and do something fun (and maybe educational) with your kids.

Places to visit

Visit the Anton Art Center

Stop by this local art center to view the Michigan Annual L exhibit, which is on display until Feb. 24 and features work from 47 Michigan Artists. The Anton Art Center is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Admission is free.

Indoor play at Jungle Java

Kids can blow off some steam at this jungle-themed indoor play spot in Clinton Township. Admission is $12 for kids ages 2-plus on school days and $15 for kids ages 2-plus on Saturdays, Sundays and non-school days (12-23 months old are $10). Adults are free along with kiddos under 12 months. 

Swimming in Macomb Township

The Macomb Township Aquatic Center is offering Winter Break Open Swims Feb. 17-25, 2024. The open swim (with water slide) times are 6-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 4-8 p.m. Friday and Noon-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.

Go Ice Skating 

Check out the public skate schedules or take ice skating lessons at these ice arena in Macomb County. Mount Clemens Ice Arena is also letting kids try hockey for free on Saturday, Feb. 24 (pre-registration required).

Live Animal Cams at the Detroit Zoo

The Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak is open during winter, but if you’re looking to stay in for the day, check out their live animal cams. Treat the kids to an inside look at what the penguins, reptiles, sea otters and snow monkeys.

Solve the Crime at Escapeology

Head to downtown Mount Clemens to check out their new escape room. For kids ages 8 and up, it features Scooby Doo and the Spooky Castle Adventure. It is recommended for 2-8 players and it costs $39.99/person.

Enjoy an interactive gaming experience

Take the kids to Zap Zone to play. On Feb. 19, you can purchase two-hour unlimited wristbands for $25.99. This includes bumper cars, glo golf, laser tag, an adventure area and more.

Events to attend

Mid Winter Break Matinees at The New Rink

Feb. 19-23, 2024

Meet some of your children’s friends for a skating meetup at The New Rink. The bounce house is included on these days.

Family Movie: Trolls Band Together at Jean Waterloo Lenox Township Library

Feb. 20, 2023

Spend the evening at the library and enjoy a family-friendly movie and snacks. February’s Movie will be Trolls Band Together. Recommended for children up to 10, but all ages are welcome.

Kids Word Bingo at Shelby Township Library

Feb. 20, 2024

  • Address: 52610 Van Dyke Ave., Shelby Township
  • Cost: Free before 5 p.m. and all day Sunday; $5/tent admission after 4 p.m.

Kids in grades Pre-K to 5th can come by Shelby Township Library to improve their vocabulary with a classic Bingo game.

Winterfest 2024 at Walter and Mary Burke Park

Feb. 22-25, 2024

  • Address: 36300 Front St., New Baltimore
  • Cost: Free before 5 p.m. and all day Sunday; $5/tent admission after 4 p.m.

Enjoy games, entertainment, food and beverages, merchandise and activities for all ages at this annual fest.
