Best Things to Do with Metro Detroit Kids This February

There’s always so many fun things to do with kids in southeast Michigan, so how is a busy parent supposed to keep track of it all? With our list of the best things to do this month, of course!

This February, we’ve found tons of family-friendly fun, including Black History Month events and Valentine’s Day events, along with some winter fun, like indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks and sledding hills. Here is our curated list of the can’t-miss activities for metro Detroit and Ann Arbor in February 2024.

This month, there are some great winter festivals happening, including the Annual Ice Carving Show in downtown Mount Clemens and the Winterfest 2024 at Walter and Mary Burke Park in New Baltimore. Find even more February events in Macomb County on our calendar.

Annual Ice Carving Show in Downtown Mount Clemens

Feb. 3-4, 2024

Teen Heart Wreaths at MacDonald Public Library

Feb. 6, 2024

Teens can come out to the library to create paper heart wreaths using pom poms and card stock. All materials will be provided. Registration required.

Valentine Crafts at Romeo District Library – Graubner

Feb. 7, 2024

Families can drop in at the library to make Valentine’s crafts. This event is for all ages. No registration required.

Kids Take & Make Craft: Valentine’s Snail at Harrison Township Public Library

Drop by the library to grab a paper snail craft to take home with you. Available while supplies last.

All ages are welcome to come to the Library Legacy Room to decorate a card for residents of a local assisted living facility.

Valentine Wreaths at Romeo District Library – Kezar Library

Feb. 10, 2024

Ages 4-12 can come by the library to create a Valentine Wreath for a gift to someone or to keep for yourself for Valentine’s Day. Registration required.

Teen Valentine Suncatchers at MacDonald Public Library 

Feb. 13, 2024

Teens can visit the library to create sun catchers using different colored glass gems and glue. All materials will be provided. Registration required.

Princess Night at the Dodge Park Ice Rink

Feb. 16, 2024

Families with princesses can grab their tiaras and come out to this family-friendly event at Dodge Park Ice Rink. Also, a date night event on Feb. 10.

Winterfest 2024 at Walter and Mary Burke Park

Feb. 22-25, 2024

Enjoy games, entertainment, food and beverages, merchandise and activities for all ages at this event.

Dog Dayze at the Farm at Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill

Maple’s Sweet Story at Kensington Metropark

Feb. 25, 2024 

Take a guided walk out to the sugar bush to learn how to pick the perfect maple tree to tap. Then watch how the trees are tapped and visit the sugar shack to watch the sap being turned into syrup. Real maple sugar products will be available for purchase. Pre-registration is required.

Galileo at Cranbrook Institute of Science

Through June 2, 2024

Visitors will learn about Galileo’s groundbreaking discoveries through engaging artifacts and hands-on experiments. The interactive exhibit includes experiments in physics, mathematics, astronomy and natural sciences that even little ones can wrap their minds around.

Snowy Saturday at the Ford House

Families can enjoy snow-shoeing or cross-country skiing while exploring the grounds at Ford House this winter. Bring your own skis or snowshoes, or borrow snowshoes from Ford House while supplies last. Attendees can enjoy a cup of hot cocoa inside.

Winter Wonderland at Elizabeth Park

Japanese Friendship Dolls at the Detroit Institute of Arts

This exhibit teaches the fine art of Japanese doll-making and showcases three Ichimatsu Friendship Dolls.

Above and Beyond at the Michigan Science Center

Through Sept. 8, 2024

See the aerospace interactive exhibit at the Michigan Science Center. Visitors will learn about the science of flight through flight simulators, immersive theater shows, touch displays and augmented reality experiences.
