New Family Attractions to Enjoy in Metro Detroit

Good things are happening in metro Detroit for families. Play places are opening, reopening and amping up the fun, and there’s plenty of new educational activities for families, too.  You and your kids will love to visit these spots again and again.

Bounce the day away at an adventure park

Urban Air Adventure & Trampoline Park has opened a new location in Commerce Township. Kids can jump, twist and leap down the tumble track Runway, or bounce off the walls with APEX Trampolines. Adrenaline seekers can defy gravity with the Sky Rider zipline experience and the Urban Air ropes course. Plus, there’s a cafe with pizza and ICEEs — what else could a kid need?

Enjoy indoors fun in Macomb County

The popular Yoyo’s Fun Center has opened a location in Clinton Township. Great for a rainy day or just a change of scenery, kids will love this spot for its slides, ball pits, trampolines, and tot-friendly play equipment. Plus, there’s an outlet for creative kiddos, too. Paint-your-own pottery is available as an add-on to play time, or as an a la carte experience.

Build Lego towers at MiSci

The Michigan Science Center is now featuring an all-new LEGO exhibition, Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO Bricks. It features 20 Lego skyscrapers from around the world – including the Empire State Building, Burj Khalifa, Willis Tower, Q1 and more. Families can view the already-built skyscrapers and create their own to display in the middle of the exhibit. If parents are worried that their little ones are too young to play and build with small LEGOs, they have a section for littles with DUPLO LEGOs to build with instead.

See Afrofuturism designs at The Wright

Marvel fans, get excited! Costumes from “Black Panther” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” are coming to The Wright. The new “Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design” exhibit features more than 60 of Carter’s original designs, including costumes from “Malcolm X,” “Do The Right Thing” and more iconic films. Carter is a two-time Oscar winner known for her Afrofuturism style and influences.

Play pretend at Detroit Kid City

You don’t have to wait for kids to grow up to run a pizzeria or cash checks at the bank. At Detroit Kid City in Clinton Township under new owner Brianna Sienkiewicz, little ones get to experience life at their size. Detroit Kid City is known for its miniature structures based on famous Detroit locations, like Hitsville U.S.A., automotive factories, baseball stadiums, pizzerias and more. It lets kids work out how to behave and respond in the real world, while also having a silly time dressing up or pretending to hit a home run. The space also has felt toys to promote imaginative play.

Bring your own food and drinks as long as they are peanut-free. And remember, it’s an electronics-free zone great for ages 1-8. Younger and older siblings can enter free to play with their brother or sister.
