The Best Winter Festivals for Metro Detroit Families to Embrace the Cold

Metro Detroit has so many great winter-themed activities, including ice skating, skiing, sleddingsnow tubing, ice fishing and more.

Lace-up your boots, zip up your coat and get your hat, gloves and scarf on before heading out to these fun winter-themed events. Most have kid-friendly activities, ice sculptures on view and hot chocolate to keep you warm while you’re there.

Bowers Farm Winter Park 2025

Frost Festival in Downtown Rochester

See downtown Rochester transformed into a frosty wonderland. There will be Frozen in Time-themed ice sculptures, a shopping and dining BINGO game, marshmallow roasting, competitions and more.

Blake’s Bavarian Winterfest

  • Cost: $5/general admission, $15/admission plus 10 pounds of make your own sauerkraut

Blake’s is bringing the heart of Germany to Michigan with a lively celebration featuring everything you love about Bavarian culture—delicious food, refreshing drinks, music, contests, games and more.

Dexter Ice Fest

See over 80 ice sculptures, live ice demonstrations, a cocoa crawl, specials from local restaurants and merchants and more at this annual winter festival.

BRRmingham Blast in Downtown Birmingham

Families can enjoy a fun winter event in downtown Birmingham that will feature zip lining, food trucks, entertainment, marshmallow roasting and more.

2025 Plymouth Ice Festival

The Plymouth Ice Festival invites families to explore downtown Plymouth, with sidewalks lined with ice carvings. There will also be winter-themed crafts, hot beverages, ice games, performances, prizes and more.
