Gear Up for Family Fun at the Detroit Auto Show 2025

The Detroit Auto Show is more than just a hub for automotive enthusiasts; it’s a thrilling adventure for families looking to spark curiosity and imagination in their children.

As the 2025 edition approaches, there’s no better time to plan your visit to this iconic event, which promises an impressive showcase of the latest in automotive innovation and design.

Kid-friendly activities at Detroit Auto Show

  • Racing Day – Jan.17 – presented by the Detroit Grand Prix will bring the streets of the Motor City live to Huntington Place as professional drivers show off their skills.
  • Four indoor tracks allow for an immersive, firsthand experience, using many of the industry’s hottest products through participation in ride-alongs. One of the tracks will be designed to incorporate some of the elements of the street circuit that will roar to life at next year’s Detroit Grand Prix. Check the show’s website for updated age requirements.
  • For the older kids, the all-new Future Leaders Forum is on Jan. 15 and 16. The program will focus on “cultivating the mobility industry’s next generation talent, by connecting 300 STEM-field university students and hundreds of Detroit-area high schoolers with auto industry experts and technology,” according to the Detroit Auto Show.
  • During the entire 10 days, a full spectrum of car brands will be showcased, allowing kiddos to get up close and personal with their favorite styles, and parents to shop for their next family vehicle. Brands include, but aren’t limited to, Alfa Romeo, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, GMC, Honda, Jeep, Kia, Lincoln, Ram, Toyota and Volkswagen.
  • The Gallery is also returning in 2025, displaying a collection of ultra-luxury and exotic cars. If your kid has ever want to see a Hot Wheel in real life, this is the spot for them. Think “coolest of the coolest.”

Tips for visiting the Detroit Auto Show with kids

  • Plan ahead. Check the show’s schedule for special events or activities aimed at kids to ensure you don’t miss out on any highlights. The full schedule and offerings will be released as it gets closer to the event dates.
  • Arrive early. Beat the crowds by arriving early. This gives you and your kids time to explore without feeling rushed.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. With so much to see, you’ll be doing a lot of walking. Make sure everyone in the family wears comfortable shoes for a day of exploration.
  • Stay hydrated. Walking around the expansive venue and experiencing all the exhibits can be tiring. Be sure to keep water on hand to keep everyone refreshed throughout the day.
  • Use noise cancelling headphones. On Racing Day, the engine noises can get overwhelming for the little ones. Purchase noise cancelling headphones to protect their ears and ease their anxiety.
