Niche, a website offering rankings and statistics on towns, schools and colleges, recently released its 2024 Places with the Lowest Cost of Living in Oakland County. It offers a look at the most affordable places for families in Oakland County to call home based on a variety of factors including an area’s home value to income ratio, median rent, gas prices, grocery costs and more. 

Top 10 Most Affordable Places to live in Oakland County 

Ortonville 

  • Average home value: $224,500
  • Population: 1,271

Ortonville’s own sprawling recreation area is a focal point for residents, as are nearby ski resorts Pine Knob and Mt. Holly. 

Royal Oak Charter Township 

  • Average home value: $118,100
  • Population: 2,400

Royal Oak Charter Township’s proximity to the bustle of nearby Ferndale and Royal Oak, paired with its own, quieter community, is appealing for active families. 

Holly 

  • Average home value: $159,000
  • Population: 5,997

The recreation areas and ski resorts surrounding Holly draw visitors from around the state. 

Pontiac
