Learn how Farmington Public Schools helps every student find their path

“Success Starts Here” isn’t just a tagline at Farmington Public Schools, says Superintendent Dr. Kelly Coffin. It’s a promise.

With a focus on meeting students where they are and supporting them as they grow, FPS has become a place where learners feel seen, challenged and inspired to reach their potential.

Here, education is not one-size-fits-all. It’s about building strong academic foundations, nurturing character and preparing students for life beyond the classroom.

Academics that prepare students for life

At FPS, academics go beyond textbooks and test scores, Coffin notes. Through the district’s Profile of a Lifelong Learner, students develop skills that matter — critical thinking, adaptability and communication.

“What sets us apart is how deeply we notice our learners, meet them where they are, and help them grow into confident thinkers and capable contributors,” Coffin says.

From early literacy programs to Advanced Placement courses, FPS provides flexible pathways tailored to each learner. Students can pursue accelerated options, individualized support or explore alternatives like FPS Online and Farmington Central High School’s unique schedule.

The district also offers robust career technical education, dual enrollment opportunities and a STEAM Academy, ensuring that students who are college-bound, career-focused or still exploring are prepared for the future.

A culture of belonging and connection

Walk into any FPS school, and you’ll find a community rooted in relationships, Coffin says. Staff know students not only by name, but by need, cultivating a school culture where every student feels valued.

That spirit is powerfully demonstrated during Launching Learning Week, when staff across the district invest thousands of hours before the first day of school to collaborate and prepare. “It’s all centered on creating the best possible experience for our students,” Coffin says. “It’s that kind of commitment and teamwork that defines FPS.”

Across classrooms and beyond, the emphasis on belonging shows up daily. Students are celebrated not just for what they achieve, but for who they are becoming.

Beyond the basics

FPS believes that learning extends far beyond core academics. Students have access to award-winning arts and music programs, competitive robotics and STEM teams — and a full STEAM Academy that brings together science, technology, engineering, arts and math through hands-on, real-world projects.

Opportunities to explore passions abound through outdoor education, athletics, leadership programs, cultural affinity groups and dozens of student-led clubs.

“These extras aren’t just add-ons,” Coffin says. “They’re an essential part of how we help students grow into well-rounded learners.”

Where every student is known and supported

For families, FPS offers both stability and flexibility. Students can find their place in a collaborative classroom environment, explore the freedom of online learning, or pursue passions like theater and robotics, each pathway designed to support their growth.

“Parents should know that Farmington Public Schools is a place where your child will be noticed, known and supported every step of the way,” Coffin says.

“Whether your child thrives in a classroom environment, needs the flexibility of online learning, wants to get a jump-start on a career path, or dreams of joining the school play or robotics team, we have a place for them here,” she adds. “And we’ll walk with them every step of the way.”
