The Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers are teaming up with Forgotten Harvest in September 2025 for a 10-day food drive to support families across the region. The campaign is part of Ford’s Global Caring Month, which brings together dealers worldwide to help fight hunger.
Here are three things families should know if they want to take part.
1. When and where it’s happening
From Sept. 15-25, you can drop off non-perishable food at any Southeast Michigan Ford dealership. Each dealership will have clearly marked donation bins inside the showroom or service area, making it quick for families to drive in, drop off food and head out. With many dealers involved, you’ll likely find a convenient drop-off point nearby.
2. What the goal is — and ways Ford is pitching in
Locally, Ford dealers are aiming to collect more than 20,000 pounds of food — enough for thousands of meals for families in need.
This effort is part of Ford’s Global Caring Month, a program that supports volunteer projects and community partners around the world. Since 2006, nearly 100,000 Ford employees have taken part in projects in more than 45 countries.
Ford also provides grants, sometimes up to $10,000, to help local nonprofits secure the tools or supplies they need, Ford Philanthropy reports. The plan for this year’s food drive was outlined in a press release from the Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers.
3. Why it matters, and why Forgotten Harvest is important
Forgotten Harvest, a metro Detroit nonprofit, works to rescue surplus food and deliver it to people who need it most, especially families and seniors. On a typical weekday, the organization redistributes about 144,000 pounds of food — from rescued produce to seasonal harvests — free of charge, according to the nonprofit’s website.
That food then flows to more than 200 partner agencies across Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. The goal is to ease hunger while keeping good food out of landfills. Partnering with Forgotten Harvest ensures donations will have a direct and immediate impact, the organization explains.
Anyone who donates will get a poster featuring Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, while supplies last. For a drop-off location near you, visit buyfordnow.com’s directory.
