For an Action-Packed Spring Break, Lansing’s 5 Recreation Centers Deliver Family Fun

Spring break in Michigan can mean sunshine — or surprise snowflakes. Either way, if your kids are ready to let loose, Lansing’s indoor fun centers are built for action.

Did you know our state’s capital is also a “capital” of these attractions? From high-speed go-karts to trampoline parks and laser tag, you’ll find five options around the region, says Lori Lanspeary, marketing and community engagement manager for Choose Lansing.

“Everybody loves to play,” Lanspeary says. “That’s what spring break is all about: relaxing, having fun as a family and making memories.” Not to mention, “Lansing is right down the road,” about a 1.5-hour drive from metro Detroit. “Really easy.”

Here’s a closer look at these five spots — and a few other any-weather Lansing musts.

5 can’t-miss indoor recreation centers in Lansing

If the weather’s iffy — or your kids need to burn off energy — Lansing’s indoor entertainment hubs deliver.

1. Zap Zone XL Lansing

“This venue is 120,000 square feet with over 15 attractions,” Lanspeary says. “It’s got everything from laser tag to a two-story go-kart track.”

  • Attractions: Include laser tag, glow golf, zip line, go-karts, escape/smash/rage rooms, bowling, axe throwing, arcade, bear factory, bull riding, paint blast and more.
  • “They have single and double go-karts,” Lanspeary adds, “so parents can ride with kids.”
  • Rocko’s Bar & Grill features family-friendly items like burgers, tacos and flatbread.

2. Launch Entertainment in Okemos

“For young kids, there are smaller trampolines here,” Lanspeary says. “This trampoline park really wears kids out.” It’s in the Meridian Mall, just like High Caliber (see below), near East Lansing.

  • Attractions: Include a ninja course, dodgeball, basketball, tumble tracks, slackline, laser tag, escape room and arcade.
  • A state-of-the-art ninja course involves trapeze, a spider wall and monkey bars.
  • Krave Restaurant features pizza, apps, slushies and ice cream.

3. Sky Zone Lansing

This trampoline option is on the city’s west side. “It’s easy to bundle with other activities,” Lanspeary adds, as it’s just a six-minute drive from downtown Lansing.

  • Attractions: Include a ninja warrior course, battle beam, trapeze swing, freestyle jump, skyhoops, ultimate dodgeball, air court and more.
  • The biggest trampoline is the freestyle jump with wall-to-wall space for acrobatics.

4. High Caliber Karting and Entertainment in Okemos

“If you’ve got middle schoolers and older, they’re going to love this place,” Lanspeary says.

  • Attractions: Include two go-kart tracks, a rage room, axe throwing, arcade and pocket soccer.
  • “The go-karts are high-speed, and sometimes they combine the tracks for a mega track.”
  • Also features a kitchen and bar. It’s inside the Meridian Mall like Launch (see above).

5. Spare Time Entertainment Center in Lansing

“This is a 31-lane bowling center with an escape room and arcade,” Lanspeary says. “It’s a mix of traditional fun with a few surprises.”

  • Attractions: Include owling, escape room, arcade, axe throwing and mini golf.
  • A seasonal outdoor 18-hole mini-golf course features sand traps, bunkers and more.
  • Grab a burger and drinks at the on-site restaurant.

More any-weather spring break fun in Lansing

Pair one or two fun centers with some city highlights for 1 full weekend trip, Lanspeary suggests. “People are really surprised when they get here how much we have to offer.”

  • Michigan History Museum: “It’s immersive,” she says. Families can walk through a copper mine, a lumber baron’s mansion and a one-room schoolhouse.
  • Impression 5 Science Center: “Every kid and adult loves this place. It’s hands-on, with everything from a two-story water room to a bubble room.”
  • Play Michigan! New in 2023, this inclusive playground is wheelchair accessible and designed for kids of all abilities.
  • Lansing River Trail: “It’s 20-plus miles of paved pathways,” Lanspeary notes. “Great for a walk or bike ride, if the weather plays nice.”
  • Where to eat: Try Lansing Shuffle, a food hall with diverse options, or grab sliders at Sidecar Slider Bar and pizza at Pizza House.
  • Where to stay: “Lansing has nearly 30 hotels with pools,” Lanspeary adds, including  Hampton Inn & Suites and the AC Hotel. “That’s the perfect end to the day — go to dinner, have a little swim, and everybody’s out like a light.”
