If staying in on cold days is more your style, explore new cozy spots with your kids this winter. These inviting winter hideaways provide plenty of opportunities to unwind, connect and celebrate all the coziness this season has to offer.
Play old school games
Head to Farmington Hills and the wacky Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum. You and the kids will be in awe seeing every inch covered in vintage memorabilia and arcade games to see, play with and touch. Visit a fortune teller’s booth and play some pinball or skeeball while seeing one-of-a-kind machines and model planes flying overhead.
Curl up with a book
Your kids will want to snuggle in close on your lap with a book at one of the many reading spots across southeast Michigan. Try the Southfield Public Library’s Children’s Department’s fantasy land with indoor treehouse, dragon’s den and plenty of nooks or head to Ann Arbor and the sweet Literati Bookstore. Teens will love reading by the fire and cozy nooks on every floor at Flyleaf in Grosse Pointe Farms (go during the day because the vibe changes later) and can fill their always-hungry bellies at its bistro, too.
Hang out with a furry friend
If hanging out with a purring, furry friend is your family’s idea of heaven, head to the Catfe Lounge in Ferndale. For $15 each, you get 60 minutes to snuggle while enjoying coffee, tea or juice. Walk-ins are allowed, but since space is limited, it’s best to schedule your purr-fect visit in advance online.
Play at an indoor adventure park
Cold temps can have kids bouncing off the walls. Instead of your own walls, take them to Urban Air Adventure & Trampoline Park’s new location in Commerce Township to bounce off its walls. It’s great for bigs with dodgeball, basketball and beam battle and littles with its Tubes Playground. There is even a climbing wall, bumper cars, laser tag and virtual reality games.
Have a beach day (seriously!)
Make it a memorable day by turning up the heat, donning bathing suits and blowing up a few pool toys for an indoor beach party. Let the kids dictate the menu (snowcones, hot dogs and giant pretzels?), then turn up the speakers for your favorite summer jams and dance like nobody’s watching.
Or up your beach game by exploring SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium at Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills to see more than 250 species, its 180-degree underwater tunnel and cool interactive touch pool where kids can actually touch sea creatures.
