Holiday Events for Metro Detroit Kids

Macomb

Blake’s New Santa Experience

Nov. 19-Dec. 23, 2023

Tickets include a visit and photos with Santa, train ride, one doughnut and cup of cider, bonfire at Santa’s Stop, letter to Santa and a small toy to take home from Santa’s basket. Dress for the weather. Advanced tickets recommended.

Holiday Lights at the Farm

Dec. 1-17, 2023 (Fridays-Saturdays)

Stroll through and enjoy traditional holiday decorations and thousands of sparkling lights. Write your letter to Santa and visit him in his workshop. Registration required.

Macomb Ballet Company Presents The Nutcracker

Dec. 1-3, 2023

Macomb Ballet Company’s production will feature beloved characters as they travel with Clara on a magical adventure through the Enchanted Forest to the Kingdom of Sweets.

Holiday Express Train Rides

Dec. 9, 16, 2023

Clinton Township Parks and Recreation and the Michigan Transit Museum team up to bring local families a holiday train ride complete with a reading of The Polar Express, hot chocolate, cookies and carols. The trains are enclosed but not heated so be sure to dress for the weather.

A crabby old man learns the true meaning of Christmas once he is visited by three ghosts the night before Christmas.

Glenlore Trails Aurora 

Nov. 17-Dec. 30, 2023 (Thursdays-Sundays)

Enjoy an immersive wintery outdoor holiday experience at Glenlore Trails. This enchanted forest is filled with more than a half million holiday lights, displays, games, holiday music and more. Select nights will also have themed activities, storytelling, live music and visits from Santa. Kids can bring their letters to Santa and put them in Santa’s personal mailbox at check-in. Food will be available to purchase.

Light the Village

Nov. 17, 2023

The outdoor shopping center will be covered with more than 800,000 dazzling colored lights and will offer family-fun entertainment, including the arrival of Santa Claus. There will be photo opportunities and a spectacular fireworks display, too. Also, face painting, arts and crafts, a food truck and more.

Magic of Lights

Nov. 17-Dec. 30, 2023

Drive through this holiday-themed light display featuring different characters and themes using the latest LED technology and digital animations. Purchase passes online.

Downtown Rochester Festival of Trees

Nov. 18-19, 2023

This festival features trees, wreaths and centerpieces designed and donated by the community.

Holiday at the Farm

Nov. 18, 2023

Join Tollgate Farm for the holidays and experience family-friendly activities including meeting Santa, seeing farm animals, tractor rides and music. This is an indoor/outdoor event, so dress for the weather. Register for a time slot.

The Big, Bright Light Show

Nov. 20, 2023-Jan. 7, 2024

Downtown Rochester is decked in 1.5 million lights, brightening up buildings every evening.

Holiday Stroll

Nov. 22-Dec. 23, 2023

Stroll through the quaint village that is glowing with almost a million festive lights, enjoy a 7-minute light show choreographed to classic holiday songs, hear the sounds of professional carolers and see live Christmas performances. There will be live holiday characters, classic characters, classic songs on a large screen, hot chocolate and s’mores.

Holiday Walk

Nov. 24-Dec. 30, 2023

Take a walk around the historic house and grounds to see more than 50 decorated trees, including a 10-foot tree made entirely out of poinsettias.

The Big Reveal 

Nov. 24-Dec. 30, 2023

Bring your own camera and enjoy the festively decorated center, including holiday trees and lights, the “underwater snow globe” and more.

Wild Lights

Nov. 24, 2023-Jan. 7, 2024

The Detroit Zoo is aglow with millions of LED lights. Purchase your tickets in advance to guarantee your experience. Dress for the weather.

Winter Wonder Lights

Nov. 24-Dec. 30, 2023

Check out Meadow Brook’s Winter Wonder Lights and see an interactive light experience. Visitors can explore the National Historic Landmark at its most festive time. There will be seasonal beverages, bonfires, selfie stations and more. 

Birmingham Santa Walk

Nov. 25, 2023

Welcome Santa to town at this annual event in downtown Birmingham. It takes place on Small Business Saturday, which offers free horse-drawn carriage rides and free hot chocolate. Registration is required. 

Holiday Walk: Santa Saturday!

Nov. 25-Dec. 23, 2023 (Saturdays)

Visits with Santa are included in the Holiday Walk, which is Meadow Brook’s daytime holiday experience indoors at the historic mansion. Visitors will take a self-guided walk through the mansion to view its holiday decorations and enjoy seasonal concessions. Advanced online tickets are required.

Holiday Bricktacular

Dec. 1-26, 2023

Celebrate the holidays with themed builds, photo opportunities with life-sized Lego Santa and more. Visitors can try to find all the LEGO presents throughout the attraction for their chance to win an exclusive holiday prize!

Royal Oak Children’s Choir Winter Concert

Irving Berlin’s White Christmas

White Christmas tells the story of a song-and-dance team putting on a show in a magical Vermont inn and falling for a stunning sister act in the process. It is based on the classic film.

Wayne County Lightfest

The Wayne County Lightfest is magical four-mile stretch of Hines Park, displaying nearly 50 animated themed displays and more than 100,000 lights.

Light Up Beacon Park

Lighted Christmas Parade

Celebrating its 23rd year, Allen Park’s annual Christmas procession features floats and performers.

Christmas Tree-Lighting Ceremony

This annual event will feature a 30-foot-tall white fir, which replaces a much smaller tree the city planted a few years ago. Prior to the tree lighting, attendees can get their picture taken with Santa, an elf and reindeer. Also, a sing-along, cookies, hot cocoa and coffee will be available.

See holiday classic movies including National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation on Dec. 2, White Christmas on Dec. 8 and The Polar Express on Dec. 9. There’s even a holiday mystery movie on Dec. 10.

Santa Visits at the Farm

Dec. 2-10, 2023 (Saturdays-Sundays)

Visit with Santa in his antique sleigh and have your photo taken by Santa’s elf. Drop your letter off in the North Pole mailbox, warm up by the bonfire, see the farm animals and shop at the general store. Reservations are required.

The Nutcracker Ballet with Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra

The Nutcracker returns to the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center. The entire family is sure to enjoy this timeless Yuletide fantasy, which features the accompaniment of the Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra.
