Memorial Day Crafts for Kids

Memorial Day is a special time of year for families.

The holiday marks the unofficial kick-off to summer — the moment kids have been waiting for! But first and foremost, it’s a time to remember and honor those who gave their lives protecting our country.

Creating patriotic crafts is fun and easy way to commemorate Memorial Day. They’re also perfect options for when the Fourth of July rolls around, too.

From flags to fireworks, your family has a lot of star-spangled inspiration to work with! Here are some Memorial Day crafts to get your children ready to celebrate Memorial Day in red, white and blue style.

Pompom American Flag Painting Craft for Kids

Pompoms are so much fun to decorate with; now we know they’re great paintbrushes, too! Crafty Morning shows you how to create a sweet American flag painting thanks to the help of some pompoms and clothespins.

Star Spangled Slime

It’s a holiday craft project with a side of … “EWWW!” Head over to I Can Teach My Child to see how your children can go crazy with starry slime.

Fourth Of July Kid’s Craft

While Ginger Snap Crafts came up with this project for the Fourth of July, it works perfectly for Memorial Day, too. Have your kids help decorate the house with this cute garland.

Patriotic Windsocks

Windsocks are what American dreams are made of. Get the kids involved in making this unique Memorial Day decor from Remodelando la Casa. Have them make red, white and blue patterns and don’t forget to tie ribbon on the bottom so it flies with the wind.

Popsicle Stick Star Streamers

Speaking of decorations, Happiness is Homemade has another great decorating project that kids can help with. Create a collection of star streamers to hang on your deck or porch for Memorial Day celebrations!

Patriotic Jar Candle

All you need is a jar, glue, sequins (in red, blue and silver) and a paint brush to put together this adorable patriotic jar candle from Fantastic Fun and Learning. It doubles as a cute decoration for a Memorial Day celebration, too.

Patriotic Painted Rocks

What is it with kids and rocks? They end up in pockets of shorts and jackets, and ultimately have to be fished out of the dryer. Embrace their love for inanimate objects, and show them how to create a keepsake they’ll cherish for days. Paint the rocks in patriotic colors, and don’t forget to add stars.
