Fun Things to Do with Kids This Weekend in Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor

This weekend is Mother’s Day and we have so many great events to check out and ways to celebrate them with your family. Plus, May is filled will even more family fun.

If you’re looking to get outside, check out these local farms, enjoy a family picnic, hit up a hiking trailor visit a nature center.

Farm Tours at Maybury Farm

May 9-14, 2023

Families can enjoy a hands-on farm experience that connects them to the animals and agriculture at Maybury Farm. All tours include a dedicated Farm Educator and use of the playground and picnic area.

Berkley Days at Berkley City Parks and Recreation

May 11-14, 2023

This annual event offers midway rides, games, fair food, robotics, live entertainment, vendors and more.

Brick Fest Live at Suburban Showplace

May 12-14, 2023

This Lego event features hands-on attractions for all ages, including life-size models, a giant brick pit, special guest appearances, a glow zone and graffiti wall.

21st Annual Rose Hill Flower Sale & Fair at Rose Hill Center

May 13, 2023

The sale features roses, hanging baskets, rose trees, butterfly bushes and flower planters. It will also include a bake sale. All proceeds will support Rose Hill Center.

Alice And The New Wonderful at Detroit Institute of Arts 

May 13-14, 2023

Join Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit for Alice & the New Wonderful, a new adaptation by Idris Goodwin.

Annual Spring Vintage, Repurposed & Handmade Market at the Brownstown Event Center

May 13, 2023

This annual market will feature 100 businesses selling vintage items, handmade signs, furniture, wood decor, boutique clothing, jewelry, personalized items and more.

Art Birmingham in Downtown Birmingham

May 13-14, 2023

Peruse the works from juried artists at this 42nd-time show that takes place on the street surrounding Shain Park in downtown Birmingham.

Day Out With Thomas at Greenfield Village

Families can take a ride with their favorite storybook friend, Thomas the Train. There will be live music, magic shows, lawn games, photo opportunities, storytelling and more. Advanced registration required.

Downtown Mount Clemens Made in Michigan – Artesian & Vendor Show

This fair showcases all things made in Michigan. See vendors, live entertainment on the fountain stage and more.

Gifts From Home A Craft/Vendor Show & Retired Veterans Letter Campaign at Chelsea Community Fairgrounds

May 13, 2023

Shop from more than 40 local booths at this craft and vendor show. There will also be a “Gifts From Home” activity table where guests will be able to write a card to be mailed to a veteran in one of the local VA care facilities or retirement homes. Food trucks and giveaways, too.

Madagascar The Musical at the Fox Theatre

Mother’s Day Weekend Spring Plant Sale at University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens

Rescue Reading at Humane Society of Huron Valley

This drop-off event is for ages 6-11. This program includes reading to the adoptable animals, a group read-aloud and a dog meet-and-greet. Pre-registration is required.

Saturday in the Park at Nankin Mills Park Area

Families can walk, run, skate or cycle safely on the six miles of Hines Drive at Nankin Mills Park Area. Hines Drive will be closed from Outer Drive to Ann Arbor Trail.

Teen Mewvie Night at Tiny Lions Lounge & Adoption Center

Ages of 12-17 are invited to join the felines at Tiny Lions for a special Teen Mewvie Night. Pop and popcorn are included, but you’re also welcome to bring any snacks and drinks of your own choice.

Royal Oak in Bloom on Main Street

May 14, 2023

This annual flower and garden sale offers flowers, plants and landscaping items. Check out the vendors selling everything from perennials to copper sprinklers, annuals to trees, tomato plants to wind chimes, porch swings to etched stones.

Walk-A-Mom at Stony Creek Metropark Nature Center

May 14, 2023

Choose the nature trail of your choice to enjoy and be sure to stop by the nature center to get a certificate, and all moms and grandmother receive a flower to plant a home. Pre-registration is not required.

Yoga with Cats at Tiny Lions Lounge & Adoption Center

May 14, 2023

Ages 12 and up can join Tiny Lions Lounge & Adoption Center to practice yoga with their furry feline yoga masters. You may bring your own yoga mat or borrow one of theirs. Pre-registration and advance payment required.

“Level Up” at the Michigan Science Center

Through May 29, 2023

Check out this 8,000 square-foot interactive installation that demonstrates the acquired skills behind video and analog games. Also, features a traveling exhibit, Electric Playhouse Travels.
