Best Things to Do with Southeast Michigan Kids in March

There’s always so many fun things to do with kids in southeast Michigan, so how is a busy parent supposed to keep track of it all? With our list of the best things to do this month, of course!

This March we’ve found tons of family-friendly fun, including Women’s History Month events and St. Patrick’s Day events along with some Maple Sugaring events. Here is our curated list of the can’t-miss activities for metro Detroit and Ann Arbor in March 2023.

Liam the Leprechaun Hide and Seek at Whistle Stop Hobby & Toy, Inc. 

March 1-17, 2023

Kids can come out to Whistle Stop Hobby & Toy, Inc. to find Liam the Leprechaun. Tell the cashier when you find him and you will receive a prize.

Maple Sugaring at Stony Creek Metropark Nature Center 

March 4, 11, 18, 25, 2023

Learn how to identify maple trees and the history of sugar making. Afterwards, head to the bonfire and see how maple syrup is made. For all ages. Pre-registration required.

Maple Sweetness at Wolcott Mill Metropark, Historic Center

March 4-5, 11-12, 18-19, 2023

Families can visit the wood-fired evaporator and discover how to turn sap into syrup. Venture out into the sugarbush on a self-guided nature hike. Pre-registration is not required.

Rainbow Saturday Storytime at Center Line Public Library 

March 11, 2023 

Children ages 0-5 can join Miss Alex to hear a few St. Patrick’s themed stories and make a rainbow chair craft afterwards. Registration required.

St. Paddy’s in the Park at Blossom Heath Park

March 11, 2023

Families can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with live entertainment food truck and a beer area at Blossom Heath Park.

Leprechaun Break-out Room at Warren Arthur Miller Library

March 16, 2023 

Ages 6-11 can come out to Warren Arthur Miller Library to help find Goldie McMuffin’s stolen pot of gold. Use the clues to find it.

St. Patrick’s Day Party for Kids! at Harrison Township Public Library

March 18, 2023

Children can enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day party which includes a story time, crafts and snacks. Registration required.

Movie Night at Jean Waterloo Lenox Township Library

March 20, 2023 

Spend the evening at the library and enjoy a family-friendly movie and snacks. Recommended for children up to 10, but all ages are welcome.

Easter Egg-Citement at the Clinton Township Civic Center 

March 25, 2023

Ages 10 and under will enjoy games, petting zoo and hunting for eggs at this Easter event. Make sure to bring your own camera to get your picture taken with the Easter Bunny. Dress for the weather.

Eggstravaganza at the Macomb Township Recreation Center 

March 25, 2023

Little ones can visit with Mr. E. Bunny and receive a surprise. There will also be games, crafts, live farm animals, inflatables and more. Pre-registration is required.

Maple Sweetness Pancake Breakfast at Wolcott Mill Metropark, Historic Center

March 25-26, 2023

Celebrate maple syrup season with an “all you can eat” pancake breakfast served by Chris Cakes. Breakfast will be served outside, so dress for the weather. For all ages. Pre-registration required.

Ignite at Launch Trampoline

March 4, 11, 18, 25, 2023 

Teens ages 13 and up can enjoy an epic teen night glow party at Launch Trampoline. There will be music and special appearances by local DJs, SFX lighting and black lights, glow in the dark body paint and more. 

Maple’s Sweet Story at Kensington Metropark

March 4-5, 11-12, 18-19, 25-26, 2023 

Take a guided walk out to the sugar bush to learn how to pick the perfect maple tree to tap. Then watch how the trees are tapped and visit the sugar shack to watch the sap being turned into syrup. Real maple sugar products will be available for purchase. Pre-registration is required. 

Toddler Time at Launch Trampoline

March 5, 12, 19, 26, 2023

Toddlers and their parent or guardian can enjoy children’s music throughout the park, a special appearance by Joey the Kangaroo and a jump time just for their age. 

Winter Fest at Southfield Sports Arena

March 5, 2023 

This festival offers ice skating, marshmallow roasting, horse drawn carriage rides, a ropes course and climbing wall and more.

Esther’s Totally Rad Purim at Congregation Shaarey Zedek 

March 6, 2023

Celebrate Purim with Queen Esther as she has gone to the 80’s for this Totally Rad Purim event at Congregation Shaarey Zedek. The Carnival will include games, popcorn, hamantaschen, drinks and more.

Projection Mapping Pop-Up: “Red Eyes” at Cranbrook Art Museum

Join Cranbrook Art Museum for a special pop-up projection mapping event at Cranbrook Art Museum’s Peristyle and grounds. 

Choco Town: An Immersive Journey Into a Sweet Town at Oakland Mall

Nature Makerspace – FOR KIDS! at Farmington Hills Nature Center

Ages 5-12 can design, create and make using nature as the inspiration to solve real-world challenges at this event! March’s theme is Legos. No registration necessary. 

Rock Around The Hawk at The Hawk – Farmington Hills Community Center

March 16, 2023

Ages 18 months to 5 years can join for a morning of music, activities and fun in the Blackbox Theater. March’s theme is Windsock.

St. Patty’s Day Dance at Chief Financial Credit Union

March 17, 2023 

One of the themed dances that is designed for persons who have special needs. Enjoy great music and dancing, while enjoy a fun evening with friends for St. Patrick’s Day.  Refreshments will be served. For ages 14 and up.

Bunny Bop at Orion Center

March 18, 2023 

Children 8 and under will enjoy an egg hunt, crafts and a photo visit with a special bunny. Bring your own basket for filling with candy and prizes. The hunt will take place by age. Pre-registration required. 

Pokemon Day at Canterbury Village

March 18, 2023 

Bring the kids out to Canterbury Village for a Pokemon-themed scavenger hunt. Also, receive a free Pokemon card for every $5 spent at village shops.

St. Patrick’s Day Party – Minute to Win It Games at Clarkston Independence District Library 

March 18, 2023 

Ages 8-18 can come out to Clarkston Independence District Library for treats, games and more to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

OUR TOWN Art Show & Sale at The Community House

March 31, 2023

This is a juried art show for Michigan artists to display and sell their work.

SUE: The T. rex Experience at Cranbrook Institute of Science

This traveling exhibit comes from the Field Museum in Chicago and features an exact cast of SUE’s skeleton, measuring in at 40 feet from snout to tail and 13 feet tall at the hip.

Sensory Story Time at the Humane Society of Huron Valley

It is just like their regular story time, but a welcoming space for those with sensory sensitivities. All ages are welcome, but it’s designed for ages 2-5. Advanced registration is required.

Spiders and Their Kin at the Eddy Discovery Center

March 26, 2023

Join Eddy Discovery Center as Dr. Cara Shillington will introduce you to live spiders, tarantulas, scorpions and other intriguing invertebrates. Advanced registration required.

“The Science of the Cookie” at the Michigan Science Center

Michigan Science Center educators, edibleWOW and Girl Scouts representatives will explore the science behind baking cookies and lead hands-on activities for visitors. Girl Scout troops will also sell cookies at the event host an online voting contest for visitors to select their favorite Girl Scout cookie, with opportunities for participants to win prizes.

Making Maple Syrup Tours at Maybury Farm

March 11-12, 18-19, 25-26, 2023

The maple tour begins with a wagon ride to the forested area of Maybury Farm. There, you’ll learn the amazing way sugar maple trees produce sap, why sap flows, how to tap and collect sap from the tree. Purchase tickets in person.

Wayne County Parks Maple Sugaring at Cass Benton Park 

March 18, 2023

Learn the history of maple sugaring and observe the process of syrup production at this event. Make sure to dress warmly and wear good trail shoes because this program is entirely outdoors. For ages 5-plus. Not stroller-friendly.

After Snark at Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit’s Black Box Theatre 

March 24-26, 2023

This show is based on Lewis Carroll’s nonsense poem, The Hunting of the Snark. It follows an unlikely crew on an adventurous quest in search of a mythical Snark.

Incredible Journey to Midnight: Detroit Underground Railroad Tour at Second Baptist Church 

March 25, 2023

History comes alive on this walking tour which documents the important role Detroit played on the Underground Railroad due to its proximity to Canada with actors portraying significant historical figures of the era to tell important events in American history. Advanced registration required.

Michigan Easter Eggstravaganza at Crystal Gardens

March 25, 2023

This Easter event features a formal brunch and egg hunt. Live character show, dance party with music, face painting and more. Registration required.

Bunny Hop at Summit on the Park

March 30, 2023

Enjoy a night of music and dancing with the Easter Bunny. Take pictures with this furry friend at the beginning of the event. Great for all ages. All family members need a ticket to the event. Pre-registration is required and will open on March 15.

The Search for Green at Nankin Mills

March 30, 2023

Ages 5 and up can look for signs of life in nature after winter leaves. Start in the barn (not heated) and then walk the trails. Dress for the weather. Registration required.

Rosa Parks Bus at Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation

Located in the “With Liberty and Justice for All” section of the museum. See the infamous bus where Rosa Parks took a stand in the Civil Rights Movement by refusing to give up her seat to a white man.
