For more than 50 years, Willoway Day Camp in Milford has been creating summers filled with adventure, skill-building and friendships for children across metro Detroit. With a mix of structured activities, free-choice periods and a supportive environment, Willoway gives kids the chance to grow, explore and build confidence — all while having an absolute blast in the great outdoors.
Willoway campers experience the best of traditional camp life during the day and return home each evening. The camp’s blend of outdoor adventures, creative arts and athletic programs ensures every child finds something they love.
Who will love this camp?
- Kids ages 5-14 who are ready for a summer filled with swimming, sports, nature, go-karts, animal farm, arts, ga ga ga and more.
- First-time campers looking to dip their toes into the camp experience.
- Active kids and explorers who thrive on variety — each day offers new opportunities to try something new and discover hidden talents.
“Camp is just as much about building independence as it is about being part of a community,” says Jonathon Koenigsberg, a camp director at Willoway. “We give children a place where they can challenge themselves, make new friends and experience things they might not otherwise get the chance to do.”
A day in the life of a Willoway Day Camper

Each day at Willoway is carefully designed to keep kids engaged, active and excited about learning new things.
- Morning swim lessons — Every camper participates in daily swimming instruction, helping them build water confidence and skill in two swimming pools designed specifically for children.
- Five structured activity periods — Kids rotate through swimming, sports, arts, outdoor adventure programs and more.
- Self-selection period — A special time when campers choose from 20-plus activities, ranging from extra swim practice to fishing, go-karts or creative arts.
- Lunch as a community — The entire camp eats together, fostering friendships across different age groups.
- Afternoon free swim & activities — Campers enjoy another swim session and try something new before heading home.
“We pride ourselves on offering a structured program, but also one that allows kids to try a little bit of everything,” says Sarah Piggott, a Willoway program coordinator and longtime educator. “We’re not a specialty camp, so campers aren’t locked into one activity all summer. They can discover new passions in a low-risk, supportive setting.”
Only at Willoway Day Camp
- Transportation is provided — Buses from multiple locations around Oakland County make getting to camp easy. More than 90% of campers take the bus and the ride is part of the day camp experience. With counselors leading games and songs, the fun starts before they even arrive at Willoway.
- Rain or shine fun — Willoway offers 15,000 square feet of indoor space for games, arts and sports on rainy days.
- Optional weekly overnight experience — Campers can opt to stay overnight on Thursdays, enjoying a campfire, extra activities and an introduction to overnight camping.
“The best summers are about being outside, trying new things and being part of something bigger than yourself,” says Koenigsberg. “That’s what Willoway gives kids, and it’s why they count down the days until they can come back each summer.”
