Choosing a diverse place to raise a family can impact the way a child sees the world.

Niche, a website offering rankings and statistics on towns, schools and colleges, recently released its 2024 Most Diverse Places to Live. It offers a look at the most diverse places for people with kids in Wayne County to call home based on a variety of factors.

These statistics were calculated based on ethnic and economic diversity statistics by city from the U.S. Census. You can find the full methodology here.

Here are the top 10 most diverse places in Wayne County on the list:

Ecorse

  • Average home value: $52,000
  • Population: 9,292

Ecorse’s affordable housing options and good commute time is a draw for many families. This town also offers residents easy access to the water.

Hamtramck

  • Average home value: $103,100
  • Population: 27,842

With a slogan of “The World in 2 Square Miles” it’s no surprise Hamtramck ranks among the most diverse places in Michigan. The city offers tons of bars and restaurants, plus many family friendly festivals throughout the year.

Romulus

  • Average home value: $138,500
  • Population: 25,055

This diverse town offers a sparse suburban feel with room for a family to grow. Romulus scored a “B-” in housing, a “B+” in outdoor activities and a “B-” for commuting from Niche.

Lincoln Park

  • Average home value: $109,500
  • Population: 39,807

Family friendly parks, a historical museum, and community festivals are center stage in this Detroit suburb.

Redford Charter Township

  • Average home value: $130,900
  • Population: 49,051

Redford Charter Township is unique. Even with a rural feel, the town still boasts excellent diversity. There are many parks available, too. The town earned a “B+” for cost of living and outdoor activities categories from Niche.

Van Buren Charter Township

  • Population: 30,214

Families seeking a diverse town with tons of green space should consider Van Buren Charter Township. Access to the Lower Huron Metropark is nearby, as is Belleville Lake.

River Rouge
