Macomb County Youth Sports Programs

Participating in sports helps children develop healthy habits — both physically and socially. Fortunately, Macomb county youth sports programs are easy to find. There are plenty of sports options for beginners, as well as intermediate and advanced options.

Macomb County is full of opportunities when it comes to youth sports, from figure skating to basketball leagues and everything in between, so you’re bound to find something that will keep your kids healthy and busy having fun.

All Star Sports Center

This center offers basketball camps and leagues for ages 4 and up and volleyball camps for grades 3-6 and grades 7-9.   

American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO)

  • Locations in Harrison Township, Macomb, New Baltimore, Richmond, St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights, Warren and Washington
  • Sports Offered: soccer
  • Great for ages: 5-19

It is a volunteer organization that runs on AYSO’s Six Philosophies, which are: Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship and Player Development.  

Big Boy Arena

The arena offers a Learn to Play hockey program, which is their recommended first step for beginners. They have a Big Boy Hockey Club for ages 5 and up. They also offer skating opportunities for all ages and abilities. 

Clinton-Macomb Girls Fastpitch League

  • Serves Macomb County
  • Sports Offered: soccer and basketball
  • Great for ages: 4-18

This fastpitch softball league offers 16 games (two games per week) and practices twice a week. Participants receive a jersey, pants and socks along with admission to the league banquet from their registration fees. 

Clinton Valley Little League

  • Serves Macomb County
  • Sports Offered: baseball
  • Great for ages: 4-16

The different age divisions are T-Ball (ages 4-6), Coach Pitch (ages 5-8), Minors (ages 7-10), Majors (ages 9-12), Intermediate (ages 11-13) and Seniors (ages 13-16).

Fraser Aquatics

The different levels for ages 6 months to 5 years are: Ducklings (ages 6 months-5 years), Jellyfish, Guppies, Flounders and Seahorse (all ages 3-5). For ages 6-plus, they follow the American Red Cross’s set of guidelines for swim lessons from Level 1 to Level 6. They also have advanced swimming, teen lessons, adaptive aquatics, private lessons and more. 

Greg Grant Sportsplex

The Sportsplex offers basketball AAU club teams, camps, clinics, trainings and tournaments.

i9 Sports

  • Serves Macomb County
  • Sports Offered: baseball, basketball, flag football, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and volleyball
  • Great for ages: 3-plus

It’s one of the largest multi-sport providers in the country. i9 Sports offers youth sports leagues, camps and clinics. The programs are Pee Wees (ages 3-up), Juniors and Seniors.

Kickstart Toddler Soccer

This soccer program is great for beginners. It teaches littles the basics of the sport and helps them learn how to kick and score. Their classes are Pee Wees (18-24 months), Rookies (2 years), Pros (3-3.5 years), Pros Plus (3.5-4.5 years) and All Stars (4.5-6.5 years).

Liquid Lightening Swim Club

Experience a year-round competitive swim team for school age athletes. 

LK St. Clair

  • Sports Offered: train and play soccer (indoor), train and play basketball and bitty basketball
  • Great for ages: 4-12

LK’s programs not only enhance children’s skills and love for the game, but also contribute to the betterment of the local community. They focus on instilling values like teamwork, hard work and community improvement, aiming to make a lasting impact both on and off the field. They offer a bitty basketball program for kids ages 4-5 that is getting introduced to the game and wants learn some skills. They’re also offering Train and Play Sports for ages 6-12. The train and play programs for basketball and soccer are divided into three age groups – ages 6-7, ages 8-9 and ages 10-12. All participants will receive a shirt or jersey.

Macomb Family YMCA

  • Address: 10 N. River Road, Mount Clemens
  • Sports Offered: basketball, gymnastics/dance, martial arts, pickleball, soccer, sportport, volleyball and sports samplers
  • Great for ages: 5-14

This local YMCA offers many different youth sports programs depending on the season.

Macomb Mustangs Youth Football & Cheer Club

  • Serves Macomb County
  • Sports Offered: football and cheerleading
  • Great for ages: 6-13 for football, 5-14 for cheerleading

For football, choose from Junior Freshman (ages 6-8), Freshman (ages 8-10), Junior Varsity (ages 10-12) and Varsity (ages 12-13). The football equipment they provide is a helmet, pants, shoulder pads, knee pads and belt. For cheerleading, choose from Junior Freshman (ages 5-7), Freshman (ages 8-9), Junior Varsity (ages 10-11) and Varsity (ages 12-14). The cheer equipment they provide is uniform (skirt, skirt and shell), jacket and hairbow. Additional equipment is required for both sports.

Macomb Recreational Soccer

First Touch Toddler Soccer helps littles with coordination, large motor skill development and cognitive development. It is broken up into ages 2-3 and ages 4-5. 

Macomb Township Little League

The different divisions are Coach Pitch (ages 5-6), Pee Wee (ages 7-8), Minor League (ages 9-10), Major League (ages 11-12) and Junior League (ages 13-14). Teams are drafted and practices are at the coach’s discretion.

Michigan Youth Basketball

This basketball program is eight weeks long. It is great for first time players and does not require tryouts. NBA teams are chosen and participants receive a reversible NBA jersey. Practices and games are on Saturdays or Sundays and playoffs (and trophies) are only available to grades 3 and up. 

Mount Clemens Ice Arena

There are plenty of hockey programs at the Mount Clemens Ice Arena. For ages 3 and up looking to learn how to play, there’s the Little Jets program. There are also camps, clinics, tournaments and an AAU team (Mite Travel Hockey). There is even a girl’s hockey program for ages 8-plus.   

St. Clair Shores Figure Skating Club

Check out their Learn to Skate program, tot classes, adaptive skating program, youth classes or sign up as a member of the club. They also have a hockey skills class.

Suburban Ice Macomb

The Macomb Hockey Club is for ages 4-8. Lil’ Mavs Program is for ages 4-6, Mini Mite Program is for ages 5-8 and Mite Program is for ages 8 and under. Tier 2 is the Mavericks, which is a highly competitive travel team. Tier 3 is the Mustangs and it is for players 10 and under, 12 and under and 14 and under.

The Compound Athletics

This sports training facility trains young athletes all the way to top-tier high school athletes in basketball. They offer training seven days a week along with camps, small group sessions, one-on-one trainings and the Jr. Pistons League. It is also home to the AAU team, Michigan Goonies. 

Utica/Shelby Swim Club

  • Serves Macomb and Oakland Counties
  • Sports Offered: swimming
  • Great for ages: Contact for ages

This swim club is a competitive age-group swim team. It is a member of the Macomb County Swim League and USA Swimming.
