Celebrate 313 Day with These Kid-Friendly Activities in Detroit

There is a lot to celebrate in the month of March including Women’s History Month, St. Patrick’s Day, Maple Sugaring events and 313 Day!

313 Day (named after Detroit’s area code) takes place on March 13 and is the celebration of all things Detroit. Check out these fun ideas in downtown Detroit.

Things to do with your kids on 313 Day

Get up early for breakfast delights

Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast at Joe Louis Southern Kitchen. Griddle options include Banana Foster French Toast, Key Lime Pie Flapjacks, Cinnamon Roll Flapjacks and more. Breakfast options for the kids are French toast, eggs with hash browns and meat, Mickey Mouse pancakes and chicken and waffles.

Discover Detroit’s art and history

Have a museum morning at the Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Historical Museum and the Motown Museum to learn more about the city’s art and history.

Visit the Detroit Public Library

Head across the street from the DIA, to see the beautiful stained-glass windows, arched ceilings and historic artwork at the Detroit Public Library -Main. Be sure to grab a copy of Metro Parent magazine while you’re there.

See GM Plaza’s car showroom

Go inside the Renaissance Center, check out the latest General Motors automobiles in GM Plaza’s car showroom and the many restaurants and shops to enjoy.

Get you selfie on

Take pictures in front of the Spirit of Detroit and the Joe Louis fist.

Be a foodie

Get lunch at Brass Rail Pizza Bar or Eminem’s restaurant, Mom’s Spaghetti.

Check out the sports-themed statues

Go across the street to take family photos in front of the tiger at Comerica Park and Barry Sander’s statue in front of Ford Field.

Go on the RiverWalk

Take a stroll on the Detroit RiverWalk to take in the views of the city, Detroit River and Canada.

Take your kids to the park

Check out Gabriel Richard ParkElliott ParkWilliam G. Milliken State Park and HarborRobert C. Valade Parkand Cullen Plaza along the Riverfront.

Find some Detroit merch

Go shopping for Detroit gear at Three Thirteen, DETROIT HUSTLES HARDER and Detroit vs. Everybody.

Take your family to Hockeytown

Get dinner at Hockeytown CafĂ©. They serve Detroit-style pizza and amazing apps (baked pretzels and garlic bread) and have a kid’s menu designed for ages 12 and under. Walk around the restaurant to view all of the Detroit sports history, as well.

Enjoy Detroit Basketball

See the Detroit Pistons take on the Toronto Raptors at Little Caesars Arena at 7 p.m. Make sure to use our family guide for tips to checking out a game with your kids.

Have a sweet evening

End the day with dessert at JoJo’s ShakeBAR Detroit. They have Biggie Shakes, Basic Shakes, Hot Chocolate, Floats, Shake BARS, milk and cookies and their Birthday Bonfire sundae.
