Top Metro Detroit Spots to Shop Local for Kids

Whether you’re shopping for the holidays, a birthday party or another special event in your child’s life, these local kid stores are sure to have something they’ll love.

All of them are small businesses that could use the support, especially since places are still recovering after closing during the pandemic. Instead of getting your gifts from Amazon or a big chain store, check out these local shops in metro Detroit instead.

Apple Blossom Baby and Décor

This upscale baby boutique specializes in children’s apparel and other décor, books and gifts. One of the great things this shop does is monogramming and personalizing items with embroidery. You’re sure to not get the same gift as someone else if you add personalizing to your order. It also offers gift registries for new parents, with free delivery and gift wrapping and shipping anywhere.

Little Dotte

This local toy shop is women-owned and offers a carefully curated inventory. It even features kid-owned companies in the store, such as Arya’s Custom Crayons, which are made by 8-year-old Arya. This store is perfect for finding a unique gift or small knick-knacks for stockings.

Modern Natural Baby

This family-owned baby store sells a wide variety of eco-friendly, natural and non-toxic baby and children’s products. It started as a cloth diaper store and has turned into the largest independent baby store in Michigan. It has everything a baby might need – clothing, toys, books, bath essentials, furniture, strollers, car seats and much more. You can purchase items to personalize at this shop such as blankets, hats, crib sheets, bows and signs.

Toy Box Michigan

This neighborhood toy store is in a great area as it shares a shopping center with bigger stores like Target, Carters and OshKosh B’gosh and Cutie Cuts hair salon for kids. It is family-owned and offers a wide selection of family games, STEM, sensory toys, arts and crafts, imaginative toys, Legos and more. Follow the store on Facebook to keep up with all of the events, including when Tootsee the Clown makes appearances.

Toyology Toys

This Michigan-based store is family-owned and has three locations in metro Detroit. It offers fun and educational toys for kids of all ages including infant toys, plushies, puzzles, board games and more. If you need help finding something for your kids, see a “toyologist” while you’re there to help you pick out the perfect gift.
