Best Family Shows and Movies to Stream in December

The holidays are upon us and with colder weather coming, it’ll be great to cuddle up on the couch for a family movie night.

This month, the streaming services feature plenty of holiday entertainment, including Christmas movies and shows and reboots of some classics. Here are our picks for what to watch with your family this December.

Candy Cane Lane

A man is determined to win his neighborhood’s annual Christmas decorating contest so he makes a deal with an elf to help him win. In doing so, the elf brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life.

The Super Mario Bros Movie

Watch Mario and Luigi go on a mission to save Princess Peach from Bowser in this film based on the video game franchise.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever

Streaming Dec. 8, 2023

  • Where to watch: Disney+

See Greg Heffley stress about the holiday season and having a hard time staying out of trouble, as always. With Christmas around the corner, he’s worried that he may not receive the gift he wants this year.

Baby Shark’s Big Movie!

See Baby Shark meet an evil pop star who wants to steal his gift of song and watch how he has to break her spell.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget

This animated film is a Netflix original. Ginger and Rocky have a daughter named Molly, but have to face a terrible new threat. Instead of escaping, this time they have to break in. 

Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Streaming Dec. 20, 2023

  • Where to watch: Disney+

This show is an adaption of Rick Riordan’s popular book series and is based on the demigod son of Sally Jackson and the Greek sea god Poseidon. It will have a two-episode premiere on Dec. 20 and a new episode every Wednesday.

Pokémon Concierge

Streaming Dec. 28, 2023

  • Where to watch: Netflix

This is a Netflix original based on the classic card-collecting game. It is about a resort where a concierge named Haru gradually discovers herself as she attends to various Pokémon guests.
