The holidays are full of traditions — and one of our favorites is driving around to see all of the neighborhood holiday displays.
Each year, private residents and neighborhoods in metro Detroit and Ann Arbor adorn homes with garlands, lights and other decorations to celebrate the season and provide other families with a fun outing, too.
Here, we offer a list of 16 twinkling displays in our area so that you can pile the kids in the car and take a ride around town to see them.
Macomb
Lights on 21
- Address: 11190 21 Mile Road, Shelby Township
See a light show put to music at this home. They have a free self-serve hot cocoa and hot cider station set up, too. You can park at Whispering Woods if you can’t find a spot in front of the house.
Vineyard Avenue Light Show
- Address: 46600 Vineyard Ave., Shelby Township
This light show tells a story with color-changing lights and musical sequences. Follow along with music on 87.9FM.
Wesner Christmas House
- Address: 40543 Irval Drive, Sterling Heights
See this residential home completely lit up and decked out for the Christmas season.
Oakland
Gaston’s Christmas Lights on Duck Lake
- Address: 1643 Ludean Drive, Highland
Tune into 91.5FM to hear the music while viewing this Christmas light display. Make sure to drop your letter for Santa off here by Dec. 15, 2023.
Lights on Araby
- Address: 3936 Araby Court, Highland
The Shrewbury family started this holiday light show back in 2017. It has grown over the years and has more than 100,000 pixels and has a FM transmitter (87.9FM) so you can hear from your car while viewing.
Marshall Family Lights
- Address: 659 Thornehill Trail, Oxford
Andy Marshall pulls out all the stops at this annual display. Lights go on around 5:30 p.m. Tune in to 98.9FM to listen to music.
Ron and Steve’s Christmas
- Address: 1460 S. Sashabaw Road, Ortonville
This merry and bright display offers 256 channels of LED lights. Tune in to 87.9FM when arriving and turn off your headlights to get the full experience. It takes place from 5-10 p.m. on weekdays and 5-11 p.m. on weekends.
South Lyon Lightshow
- Address: 690 McMunn St., South Lyon
Tune into 98.9FM to listen along with the show, which features more than 50,000 lights! There is also a CCR Color Changing (Smart) Ribbons tree. View lights until 9 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays and until 9:30 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays.
The Kurdziels’ Light Show
- Address: 45107 Courtview Trail, Novi
Make sure to tune into 91.1FM while viewing. The light show takes place 6-10 p.m. daily during the holiday season. The Kurdziel Family will be accepting food donations that will go to The Kid’s Table.
Wayne
Albright Family Light Show
- Address: 27105 W. River Road, Grosse Ile
This annual residential light display offers a daily light show synced to music. Make sure to turn to 107.9 FM. View the lights 6-10 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays and 6-11 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays.
Bazillion Lights
- Address: 29718 Robert Drive, Livonia
This annual light display started back in 1996 and has gotten bigger and better every year. Stop by this year to see what’s in store.
Bostick Family Light Show
- Address: 29195 Sheridan St., Garden City
The Bostick family puts on a Valentine’s Day, Fourth of July, Halloween and Christmas light displays every year. Tune into 95.1FM to listen in – they have speakers in their yard as well. Be sure to take a picture in their free photo booth/selfie station.
Grosse Pointe Light Displays
Take a scenic drive along Lake St. Clair to see the lights that many of the houses have put up for the season.
Lyp Family Christmas Light Show
- Address: Waltz Road, between Judd and South Huron, New Boston
This annual residential light display offers a daily light show synced to music. Make sure to turn to 102.5FM. The lights will be available to view 5-11 p.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m.-midnight on weekends.
Perrin Family Lights of Livonia
- Address: 11820 Jarvis St., Livonia
See this holiday light display nightly until 9 p.m. on weekdays and until 10 p.m. on weekends. Tune into 95.3 FM.
The Northville Symphony of Lights
- Address: Northville Christian, 41355 Six Mile Road, Northville
This display, formerly known as Livonia Lights, celebrates the true meaning of Christmas – the birth of Christ. Make sure to turn to 87.9FM and you will see 125,000 lights dance to the beat of the music. View lights from 6-8:30 p.m. every day.
