Gift Experience Ideas for Father’s Day

It is the time to celebrate in BIG, BOLD letters and yell at the top of our lungs, “HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!”

But wait, do you and the kiddos always get your husband the same ol’ thing year, after year, after year? Are you always scurrying around the city, or scrolling on Amazon wondering if Dad will love the color of this tie or socks or even underwear? Not this year!

Check out these four awesome and fun ways to celebrate dad in “The D”:

Distillery Tours

What an entertaining way to say “cheers” to the one you love the most. Distillery tours are for the dads who know and love their spirits, or for the husbands who would love to try something new and exciting!

Valentine Distilling in Ferndale proves that “high-quality manufacturing in Detroit is still alive.” Enjoy samples of its Detroit-made fine whiskey, gin and vodkas on the tour (hence this is not a family-friendly event).

Another great place for a distillery tour is Detroit City Distillery. The fun fact is that it is the former home of the historic Stroh’s Ice Cream and Brewing Co. If dad is a fan of the rich Detroit history and whiskey, he will surely enjoy the tour of this amazing factory.

Axe Throwing

An exciting experience for the dad who wants to have an adventurous kind of fun: axe throwing. This high-energy, testosterone-building activity has an age requirement of 12 and up so plan accordingly for your little ones.

Kart2Kart located in Sterling Heights has exclusive axe throwing and go-kart racing, plus a full bar. Couple up with your friends or have all the dad dudes go together for some man time. BATL in Novi is such a great name for this venue. They are a founding member of the International Axe Throwing Federation. Here, dad can join a league with a friend or find new ones while throwing the axe down the lanes!

Retro Video Gaming

I don’t know about you, but with two boys in the house, it’s hard to get them off the screen (Roblox and Fortnite Mom here). However, there is something about that nostalgic feeling of Pacman or Centipede that would make them great for a majestic family-filled day.

Surprise dad with a visit to Free Play Pinball Arcade in Fraser where there are more than 70 pinball and arcade machines, delicious food and drinks, and just plain ol’ quality time together. Or grab the kids and the hubby and take them downtown to Barcade on Family Day.

These days are usually held noon-5 p.m. on Sundays, but check before heading out. Otherwise, Barcade is strictly for the 21-and-up crowd, but dad may want some adult time with you or his buddies.

Family-Friendly Breweries

Craft brews and delicious burgers are a classic Father’s Day combo. Celebrate Dad at a kid-friendly brewery and enjoy a memorable meal. These local breweries offer kids menus, family-friendly seating and activities to keep kids busy while dad enjoys another craft beer.

Mini golfing

What better way to bond with Dad than over a friendly mini golf competition? Let Dad show off his putt this Father’s Day by visiting one of our favorite local putt putt spots.  There’s a reason this class game hasn’t lost any of its appeal, and it’s sure to score a hole-in-one with your family.

Fun-Filled Free Favorites Itinerary

With vacations, birthday parties and life planned post-COVID, dad will appreciate the idea of saving money while still having fun. Make a list of what he loves to do and loves to eat. After compiling his hit list, you and the kids can make an unforgettable Father’s Day Itinerary. Here’s an example:

  • Start the Sunday with a healthy breakfast: Breakfast Tacos
  • After-breakfast activity: Family bike ride on a local trail
  • Picnic at the park or beach: Pack subs, chips, homemade fruit salad, frozen Reese’s Peanut butter cups
  • Relaxation time with a book and soaking in some sun or take a nice walk
  • Healthy dinner at home with a delicious dessert: Beef stir-fry and homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream.
  • Sunday night movie: Dad’s choice
