The Michigan Science Center has announced its upcoming free days.
On July 20-21, visitors can visit MiSci for free from noon until 6 p.m. The community free days are taking place during the weekend of metro Detroit’s 31st annual diversity festival, Concert of Colors.
Concert of Colors is a free family-friendly festival with performances and events held at cultural hubs around the metro area. This year, MiSci will be hosting an all-day Arts & Scraps crafting session for kids.
Stop by for the free arts & crafts, but stay for all of MiSci’s incredible STEM offerings. The non-profit Smithsonian affiliate is home to more than 200 interactive STEM exhibits, an 8,700-square-foot special exhibit hall, live stage shows, a 4D theater and a planetarium.
With so much to see, do and learn, you’ll need to keep coming back in order to experience it all! For now, here are our tips on making the most out of your free day visit with the fam.

- Parking: Metered street parking is available around MiSci. Pay to park in the Cultural Center Lot or the Rackham Memorial Parking Garage operated by Wayne State University. Prices and hours vary.
Things to do with kids at MiSci
- Control the weather at “Earth. Wind. Weather” by creating avalanches and geysers, exploring atmospheres and commanding the ocean tides.
- Play video games, arcade games, VR games and even old-school analog games at “Level Up,” an interactive exhibit on the science behind what happens in our brains when we game.
- Marvel at the wonders of space as you teach your kids about space travel, the sun and stars, rocket tech and more.
- Make math into a fun game at “Math Mountain.”
- Learn about matter in motion at the hands-on “Motion Gallery,” an educational play space filled with circuits, magnetic fields and more.
- Experiment with sound, colors and reflections at the “Waves and Vibrations” exhibit.
