Calling all little scientists! The newly revamped early child learning space at Michigan Science Center is open and ready to inspire the curious, developing minds of littles ones ages 0-5.
The enclosed Level 1 space includes building materials and interactive play that teach kids basic concepts of light and outer space. Caregivers and their kiddos can learn together through a variety of engaging STEM-focused activities.
A weekly STEM Story Time takes place in the early learning space at 2 p.m. on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
“We want to inspire exploration, discovery and a love of science for guests of all ages, including our youngest learners,” says Mi-Sci President and CEO Dr. Christian Greer in a news release. “Our new early learning space puts preschool-aged children at the center of science using engaging activities that stimulate young minds and introduce basic STEM concepts at age-appropriate levels.”
For more scientific fun for littles, Mi-Sci hosts a weekly Young Explorers program on alternating Wednesdays and Sundays. The lessons range from magnets and robots to water and the human brain, and kids learn through play, literacy, pattern-recognition and motor skill-based activities.
For older kids who may not be interested in the early learning space, there are plenty of exciting exhibits at MiSci that combine educational STEM lessons with fun games and hands-on activities that kids can’t get enough of!
Kids of all ages will love controlling the weather at “Earth. Wind. Weather.” Create avalanches and geysers, explore atmospheres, command the ocean tides and more. If you’re looking to show off your math smarts, swing by “Math Mountain,” a kid-friendly exhibit that turns math into an exciting game.
If your child insists they’re not interested in science or museums, then you need to take them to “Level Up,” an interactive exhibit on the science behind what happens in our brains when we game. Kids will learn about robotics and programming by playing video games, arcade games, VR games, old-school analog games and more.
